Month of May

My time at Arohanui this month has been busy, active, and full of enjoyable experiences. I have really loved getting out into the community, trying new things, and spending time with my friends while building my confidence and skills.

One of the highlights for me was going on Community Inclusion to the Strand for the Tauranga Art Walk. It was such a fun and interesting adventure, with so many colourful murals and creative artworks to admire along the way. Everywhere we looked there was something beautiful and unique, which made the day exciting and inspiring. I really enjoyed exploring the area, taking in the atmosphere, and sharing the experience with my friends. During one of my outings this month, I visited the Historic Village, where I enjoyed helping out by sweeping and clearing small rocks from the walkway. It felt rewarding to contribute and take part in keeping the area clean and tidy. After finishing, I went for a relaxing walk along the boardwalk with my friends, enjoying the fresh air. The outing was both enjoyable and calming.

I have also enjoyed helping out at Quirks Café, where I had the opportunity to make coffees and hot chocolates, as well as plate up the delicious slices for customers. It was rewarding being able to lend a helping hand and learn more about working in a café environment. I liked being part of the team, staying busy, and helping create a welcoming experience for everyone who visited. I considered myself a super worker during our Friday Fundraiser Madness.

I also was very lucky to meet paralympic cyclist Devon Briggs. Devon came to Arohanui to share his amazing story with us and gave us the ins and outs of what it’s like to be in the Paralympics. He shared many inspiring stories that were very interesting. Devon even brought in his bike and his silver and gold medals. I loved putting on the gold medal it was very shiny and heavy.

This month has been very memorable and rewarding, I look forward to seeing what’s next in store for me.
